Talking about SECURITY: There are two type of companies dealing with any kind of sensitive DATA or having DATA-driven business:

1) those that have been hacked
2) those don’t know that they have been hacked

The Cloud-base services widely available now just increase the suspiciousness of customers and make them not rush into the cloud. The problem is not related to the quality or security of the cloud services, but to the insider risk factor. The administrator for a Cloud-based services can access executive-only financial data and conduct as insider delivering a confidential information to outsiders.

Just several of bunch of BIG PROBLEMS derived from BIG DATA

– Power consumption is issue – power costs for the petaflop systems can exceed $5M annually
– Network capacity is issue – instead of moving DATA to the compute processor, the computational power is being moved to the DATA;
– CAP problem is issue – in Distributed Platforms three conditions Consistency, Availability and Partitioning can’t live together;
– Moore Law is issue – Moore Law doesn’t work anymore – DATA to be processed grows much faster than computing power

So, there are large space for innovative and applied research in area of DATA SCIENCE
