Big Data Information and Networking Days on Horizon 2020 organized by European Commission and Big Data Value Association (BDVA) held in Brussels on 14-15 January 2016.
Qafqaz University was represented by Assoc.Prof. Abzetdin Adamov, faculty member at the Computer Engineering Department and Director of CeDAWI Research Center.
The aim of the event was to inform and guide potential proposers Big Data PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) preparing project proposals, to facilitate sharing of ideas and experiences. Also many networking opportunities were provided to participants to find potential partners for their projects.
During the networking session Dr. Abzetdin Adamov presented his team’s project idea under ICT-14 call titled “Language Technologies and Multilingual Platform as a Service”. Some updates and enhancements are intended to be done in accordance to feed-backs come from potential partners.
The purpose of proposed project “Language Technologies and Multilingual Platform as a Service” is to develop language technologies for Caucasian and Central Asia countries and provide cross-sectoral services based on Analysis of Textual Data.
This is highly cross-disciplinary project involving many research areas in Computer Science including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning, Information Extraction, Software Engineering, Data Mining and Analysis.

The language barrier is one of the most significant obstacle for business development, scientific progress and cross-cultural communication in Europe. At the same time, multilingual technology framework may serve as a platform bridging people speaking on different languages, so as a result simplifying co-operation, advancing business relations, conducting a joint researches and cross-cultural communication.
It is obvious today that language technologies is key enabler of next-generation, user-centric ICT services those will serve as base of Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy. Application of language oriented research results is one of the most important prerequisites for rapid development of Internet economy, Start-Up movement and nation wide government online services.
